I pod touch

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

Jim got an ipod touch (just a wee one) when we bought Rachael a new computer ( she does not get it until many conditions are met). She made us write down the conditions in case we moved the goalposts but she forgot to take the piece of paper away with her so we can just add to it whenever we want.
Back to the touch. He got it ant didn’t do anything with it for ages. So today I made him sign up for I tunes so that he could download his apps. Now he has a few on it, Paris Metro, France 24, BBC News, Jazz FM and other stuff like that. He hasn’t put music on it yet. It is a good idea to wait until he has downloaded most of the apps he wants and then still leave half a gig for other things. Next year he will probably get an iphone if we are still in the country and have not run away as my one can be upgraded in July..

Computer Sharing,

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I hate sharing my computer. When I was in Paris they all used mine and no one ever put the settings back to my settings. Now Rachael is home to make a start on tidying her room and she insists on using my computer to check her facebook every 2 minutes and use my phone to play angry birds. It seriously annoys me that she doesn’t log out of facebook and it seriously annoys me that I cannot get my computer when I want it as she is using it or it is up in her room while she listens to a storytape as she says she works better while she is listening to one. Remember the days of one computer in the house. Now a personal computer is personal.

Home at last

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Got home at about 2.30 am and crawled into bed asap. As I came out the Prestwick airport car park my oil light came on. Just as well Jim bought me some oil last week. So I poured the whole lot in, only to be told this morning that I can overfill the oil tank and 1litre was probably too much. I checked the oil and it came to just the maximum level but it was pointing uphill so I have to check it again as I gave it a run up to Perth so it is now facing downhill and will have cooled down. The peace and quiet is lovely, the sun is shining but the house is cold. I think a wee spurt of heating may be necessary.

playing on the buses

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

We went into town and bought a few things in BHV (the amazing bricolage). Then went for papers and a beer. We then went a walk in “village St Paul” where I saw some jewelery I want, Bakelite art deco stuff a red and black necklace and red and silver earrings. Beautiful. We then decided to go for something to eat…. somewhere different.. so we got on a bus and then changed and got on another bus ( one ticket will take you 2 journeys in a certain space in time) so we then looked for a bistro. We had a lovely meal of pate, followed by lamb and then baked fig in fromage blanc with violet ice cream, J had mussel ravioli, and lamb followed by chocolate pudding. I loved the violet ice cream. Must find violet essence. Then home , a good night.

oh ma heid!

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

We had a pleasant evening, eating and drinking a good wine and went to bed reasonably sober, but when the kids came in Rachael was noisy and wanted to play so we came downstairs for a chat and they opened a bottle of wine followed by g&ts . Well my heid is loupin”. And there are no painkillers in the house as Jim used all the ones I had in my drawer. He has a drawer full of used paracetamol packets all empty!
They are off to meet friends to bring them back for “Desperados” seemingly a mixture of beer and tequila, sounds gross and powerful. So I have got plenty of bread in and they can fill up with sandwiches .

Still in Paris

Friday, August 27th, 2010

We are still here, the Kids have gone off to their rock festival not before consuming vast quantities of wine. Last night they went to a restaurant and it was 42 Euros for food and unlimited wine …..you could get individual courses but they chose 5 courses with wine . There were 4 of them one, had fluent French which helped. She could banter with the waiters. At the end of the night the waiter said thank goodness they were finished, in French. R’s friend replied in French embarrassing the waiter, the bill came in at 100euros short (waiters do this in France sometimes and they get a good tip for it. The Kids paid 100 euros for a 68 euro bill) and ran. I don’t know whether to approve or not. They overcharge. The middle class French are the worst shoplifters in my friend Tim’s shop. The kids hadn’t much cash but 100 euros for 168euros. They had a large basket of charcuterie followed by steak and duck and then puddings which weren’t very good, cheese and bread and 6 bottles of wine. The people running the place rely on people like me who pay their 42 euros and eat and drink about 20 euros worth but I think the kids did quite well.
Tonight Jim and I had a steak hache (burger) and roquefort sauce, salad and lentil vert with a bottle of Savigny les Beaune, it was fine, the wine was good.

Paris

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

It is hot and sticky in Paris but the sun is not shining. I suppose the bonus is that it was meant to rain but it is dry. Rach and Jamie have gone into town and they said they would be back before they go out but I doubt it. Two of Rach’s school friends are also in Paris for the festival. They slept in a tent in the patio but the tent was small. I need to go shopping but I need money and I put my card into the ATM and it said that there was a problem (twice). It did not say I put in the wrong number but I feel on a shoogly wicket. I don’t feel the urge to do anything as I cant think of anything exciting to do.
The festival that the weans are going to starts tomorrow, The Rock en Seine festival, so that will get them out my hair after 3pm. We are 100 yards from Courbevois station and there is a direct train to Parc St Cloud with the last train after 1am so it should be easy for them. Seems strange for a festival to start at 3.30pm every day.

Went to see “The Keeper ” at the Pleasance today and it is worth going to see. If you know the story, which I did, the ending is weak but even then it is worth going to see. Tomorrow, Paris.

The Tailor of Inverness

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Well we missed Sunday’s performance by 10 minutes and Jim has been desperate to go. Anna phoned yesterday to say it is on again at the Citizens in Glasgow next month. On line in 2 minutes. The web site does not give a choice of seats or tell you which are available, so I phones. I got two seats about where we want to sit and Jimbo in the aisle ( it gives him shoulder room.) We will go for the Saturday and be there with hours to spare just to make sure we see it.It has become an expensive play for Jim to see.
Yesterday we never got to the fringe as we had planned as one of the crew could not get the day off work but I went round to see another and she wanted to go to see “The Keepers” but couldn’t make it this week but can make it when I am away . I booked a couple of tickets for today for Anna and I and we have to give a crit.
Went to the pictures last night and saw a film called “The Illusionist” it was written by Jaque Tatti and is wonderful. Most of it is set in Edinburgh. Very few words are spoken in the whole film. Go and see it if you can.
